Israeli's traditional clothes

Israeli's traditional clothes

Arab....

One of the most beautiful things in Arab culture is their traditional wear. Traditional dress is a part of ancient civilization stretching for thousands of years (the time of Canaan, throughout the 4th millennium BC). Men used to wear a short embroidered jacket with long sleeves slit open on the inside, red shoes and a small yellow woolen cap with a tight turban, while women wore distinctive clothing (dress).

Every area had its own dress color, dark red, for example is found in Ramallah. In addition, every area has a different dress style and every dress reflects the nature of the people who wear it. Mountain area dresses, for example, can be distinguished by the lack of embroidery because women in these areas used to work in agriculture and did not have time to embroider their dresses compared to women from other areas.

Traditional dress can tell a lot about the person who wear sit, for example, if the girl is single or married. In Beersheba dress, the red dresses in this area used to be the dresses for the brides, blue dresses are the widows' dresses and if a woman is married for the second time then her dress most be embroidered with red flowers. It also determines whether the person who is wearing it is a farmer, city dweller or a Bedouin. Women's dress also tells history, for example, in Jerusalem dress, on the chest there are symbols from the time of the Canaanites, on the sides appear symbols from the time of the Crusaders, and also symbols appear from the Islamic rule. Jerusalem dress also tells about some feelings that dominated the Arabs in 1948; these feelings such as homesickness and grief are reflected by the colors (bright colors replaced by dark colors). This distinctive dress was and still attracts international attention, and they are still sold.

Circassians..

Circassians in Israel are a group of people who converted to Islam. They dwell in the Upper Galilee and inhabit two villages: Al-Rehaniyya and Kfar Kamma. Although we are in the 21th century, Circassians still stick to their traditions as a way to preserve their identity, including the traditional clothes.
Circassian men's traditional clothes consist of colorful baggy pants with along straight knife hung on them, in addition to a shirt which is worn with a large leather jackets , and they wear long leather boots. The headdress is a black hat made of leather.
For women, their clothes consist of a long loose dress decorated with light decorations in the chest area, with a long hat hanging from the top and made of transparent materialo to cover the head.
Circassians' traditional clothes are not in use today, because they were designed for the mountain areas unsuitable for Israel`s mild climate, and also expensive. So they  became special clothes for Circassian orchestras in concerts and special events.

Jewish....

Men's Clothing

Spodik: A spodik is a tall fur hat worn similar to the Shtreimel but distinctly different in its size and height. The Spodik is worn by specific mail Chasidic sect members usually of Polish decent. The Ger Chassidim (Chassidic Jews) are most famous for this particular head gear.

Bekishe: A bekishe is a long black silk (or for those seeking more affordable - polyester) coat worn by Chasidic Jews. Mostly the bekishe is worn on Shabbat, Jewish holidays and for Jewish celebrations such as weddings and bar mitzvahs

 Women's Clothes

Tichel: The Tichel is a headscarf worn by some Orthodox Jewish women in compliance with the code of "tzniut" (modest attire). The word "Tichel" is Yiddish for "kerchief." There are lots of styles for Tichels, from very plain to extremely elaborate designs and fabrics

Tzniut: Tzniut in Hebrew means Modesty. Orthodox Judaism requires men and women to practice modesty of dress. This requirement is understood by all orthodox folk, however the standards vary as does the strictness and adherence. In Charedi, ultra orthodox communities the men generally wear long pants usually black and often long shirts (mostly white) and women wear long-sleeved blouses and ankle-length dresses, and the color schemes are more subdued and sedate (no hot pinks). The lengths of sleeves, dresses, and head covering vary.

Druze..

The Israeli Druze are a religious minority in Israel and an ethnic group.
Despite the evolution of clothing in Israel, a lot of the Druze still wear the traditional clothing that express them as a nationality in a multi-ethnic society and make it easy to identify them.
The Druze women's traditional clothes consist of a blue or black peasant dress with a gauzy white head covering called a mandil and red slipper-like shoes.
The Druze men's traditional clothes are divided into two groups :-
  1. The ùqqal (initiated) wear baggy pants that are tight at the ankle.
  2. The Juhhal (uninitiated) men wear the common Arab head scarf, the keffiyeh.
However, both groups wear heavy white turbans.
And one of the traditional signs that identify the Druze are the large waxed moustaches that most Druze men have.
So despite progress in the world, the society can’t forget their traditions. It's possible
that they will be less, but they will not be disappear.
